Within the body, there is a basic natural rhythm that directs our natural urges. Our natural urges are food, sex and sleep. These are referred to as the three pillars of life. They can also be compared to digestion, creativity and rest. While we all have rhythms unique to our constitutions, it is necessary for our basic rhythms to be in alignment for our more subtle rhythms to manifest by using daily routines .

Through improper living, we have become disconnected to these natural rhythms and, as a result, more out of harmony with the subtle rhythms. Imitation rhythms created by society and desires from our ego to overindulge have been the reason for this loss. The first step to becoming balanced and in touch, is to create daily routines based on the natural rhythms, then our subtle unique rhythms will begin to emerge.

Ayurveda provides us with a map to our basic rhythms. Through these daily routines, we can again bring balance to the doshas and live a life filled with happiness and health.
